Abstract: This paper presents experiences with the design of a mobile solution, supporting the planning and sharing of routes in nature among nature lovers and professional guides using standard cell-phones. Based on an exploratory, user-centred design process the paper will extract and discuss some challenges for on-location mobile use, the use at home and while on the move, and the collaboration between both amateurs and professionals and among amateurs. In particular we discuss the trade-offs and design choices pertaining to the limited social and physical interaction possibilities of the cellular phone.
